i sold the couch (on and on)
I sold the couch a couple weeks ago
To someone that I didn’t even know
They took it all apart, bits of me and bits of us
And they drove off with the pieces in the backseat of their car
But what if there were memories in the pieces they broke up?
If all that’s left is only in my head, is that enough?
What if time ticks on and on, and I’m still stuck in these bygones?
Frightened you won’t know me if I grow too much
‘Cause our things aren’t ours anymore
Maybe you’re sharing ‘em with someone new, and maybe I will too
But I think it’s cruel that this phenomenon goes on and on and on
Oh, we long, then we love, then we lose, and long again
When does it end?
When does it end?
I came upon that old brown pawn we thought we lost while playing chess
Stuck between the cushion and the arm rest
Found it just a couple days before they took the couch
And lately, it’s been all that I can think about
‘Cause if I don’t reminisce, will we cease to exist?
Ah, if I don’t dwell on every little detail, will we drift?
And what of all the words you said?
Will they slowly lose their worth in the end?
‘Cause our things, they aren’t ours anymore
Maybe you’re sharing ‘em with someone new, oh it hurts, but it’s the truth
And I think it’s cruel that this phenomenon goes on and on and on
Oh, we long, then we love, then we lose, and long again
Yeah, we long, then we love, then we lose, and long again
And it goes on and on and on
On and on and on and on and on and
On and on and on
On and on and on and on and on and
I sold the couch a couple weeks ago
To someone that I didn’t even know
They took it all apart, bits of me and bits of us
And they drove off with the pieces in the backseat of their car
